How to Make the Perfect Iced Matcha Latte at Home

A Simple Wellness Ritual Using Mujo Matcha

There’s something quietly grounding about starting your day—or pausing mid-afternoon—with a perfectly made iced matcha latte. Earthy, vibrant, and rich in antioxidants, matcha has long been celebrated for its focus-enhancing, calming energy. With our ceremonial grade matcha, you don’t need a fancy café to elevate your ritual. You just need five minutes and a few clean ingredients.

In this guide, we’ll show you how to make a refreshing iced matcha latte with your favorite dairy-free milk and a touch of natural sweetness—using vanilla syrup or raw honey.

Why Mujo Matcha?

At Mujo, we source only the highest quality ceremonial grade matcha, stone-ground from the youngest shade-grown leaves in Japan. Our matcha is smooth, never bitter, and ideal for sipping—hot or cold.

Ingredients

  • 1 tsp Mujo ceremonial grade matcha
  • 2 oz (¼ cup) filtered water – just below boiling (~75-80°C / 170°F)
  • ¾ cup dairy-free milk – oat, almond, soya or coconut milk work beautifully
  • 1–2 tsp vanilla syrup or raw honey – adjust to your taste
  • Ice

Tools

  • Matcha whisk (chasen) or electric frother
  • Small bowl or a matcha ceramic bowl
  • Spoon and sifter
  • Glass for serving

Method

1. Sift the Matcha

Add 1 heap(Add more for a stronger taste) of Mujo matcha powder to a small bowl through a fine mesh sifter. This removes any clumps and creates a smooth, even base.

2. Whisk with Water

Add in room temperature water to create a paste and then pour in 2 oz of warm (not boiling) water. Using your chasen or frother, whisk briskly in an “M” or “W” motion until the matcha is fully dissolved and frothy on top. This step is essential for releasing matcha’s full flavor and nutrients.

3. (Optional)Sweeten Naturally

Add 1–2 teaspoons of vanilla syrup or honey to your whisked matcha. Stir to combine.

4. Build Your Latte

Fill a glass with ice. Pour in your milk alternative of choice, then slowly top with the sweetened matcha mixture. Watch the layers settle before gently stirring.

Sip Slowly

Take a breath. Feel the calm. Your homemade iced matcha latte is more than a drink—it’s a mindful moment.

Tips for the Perfect Iced Matcha

  • Always use ceremonial grade matcha for drinking. It’s smoother, brighter, and designed to be enjoyed simply.
  • Don’t skip the sifting or whisking—these steps make the difference between clumpy matcha and a silky-smooth latte.
  • Oat milk offers the creamiest texture, but any plant-based milk works.
  • Try adding a dash of cinnamon or cardamom for an aromatic twist.

Matcha is a Ritual

Whether you’re easing into the morning or grounding yourself mid-afternoon, making matcha is an act of mindfulness. With Mujo, you’re choosing quality, intention, and calm in a cup.

3.You’ve Tried Matcha and Think It Tastes Bitter and Like Grass? Let Me Explain.

So, you tried matcha. Maybe in a latte or straight up, and your first thought was: bitter, grassy, not for me. Totally fair. But let’s take a breath, slow down, and look a little deeper.

Not All Matcha Is Created Equal

Just like coffee or wine, matcha has grades — and they matter. Culinary-grade matcha is often what’s used in baked goods or cheaper lattes. It’s more astringent, less smooth, and can carry that sharp, grassy edge. It usually has a dull green almost slightly brown colour. Ceremonial-grade matcha, on the other hand, is made from the youngest tea leaves(first harvest), stone-ground to a fine, vibrant green powder. It’s naturally sweeter, smoother, and much more balanced.

The difference in quality? Night and day.

How You Make It Matters

Even the best matcha can fall flat if it’s not prepared well. Water that’s too hot (anything over ~80°C/176°F) can burn the powder and bring out bitterness. And if it’s clumped or not sifted, it won’t whisk up to that creamy froth that makes drinking matcha such a calming ritual.

Less is more — 1 to 2 grams of matcha, a splash of warm water, and a gentle whisk. That’s your starting point.

Personal Preference is Everything

Not everyone enjoys matcha the same way. Some love it straight and bold. Others prefer it mellowed with oat milk or a touch of honey. There’s no right or wrong way. It’s about finding your way.

The beauty of matcha is in the exploration — it’s a mindful moment, a quiet ritual, and a connection to simplicity. If your first sip wasn’t love at first taste, don’t write it off. You might just need better matcha, a softer approach, or a different style.

Let It Be an Invitation

When you find good matcha — fresh, vibrant, and thoughtfully made — everything changes. The bitterness fades. The ritual becomes something you look forward to.
