Mujo Matcha – Frequently Asked Questions
What is Matcha?
It’s a type of powdered green tea. The tea leaves are grown in the shade to stimulate the plant to produce higher chlorophyll levels as well as L-Theanine(Amino Acids). Unlike traditional green tea, where the leaves are steeped and discarded, matcha involves consuming the whole leaf, which is ground into a fine, vibrant green powder.
What is Ceremonial Grade Matcha?
Ceremonial grade matcha is the highest quality of matcha, made from the youngest, most tender green tea leaves. It has a vibrant green colour, smooth texture, and a naturally sweet, umami flavour. Mujo Matcha only offers ceremonial grade matcha (First harvest).
Does Matcha Contain Caffeine?
Yes, matcha does contain caffeine. If you use about 2 grams of matcha it has about 30 to 70 mg of caffeine. It has less caffeine than coffee and because of the L-theanine content in matcha the caffeine has a slower release resulting in a more sustained energy source.
Where is our Matcha from?
Our matcha is sourced directly from our trusted partners in Uji, Japan, the birthplace of matcha and a region renowned for its premium green tea. With over 180 years of tea-making expertise, their family-owned business has mastered the craft over generations, ensuring unmatched quality and authenticity in every batch. We went to Japan ourselves and visited their farms and factories to ensure quality.
Is Matcha healthy?
Yes, matcha is very healthy for you. Especially when consuming ceremonial grade matcha. There are several health benefits such as metabolism support, rich in antioxidants, boosts energy and brain function and many more.
How to store your Matcha?
Matcha is best stored in a cool, dry place away from heat and sunlight. We suggest storing your matcha in the fridge to maintain optimal quality.
Why is Matcha so expensive?
Ceremonial Japanese matcha is more expensive because of the care, quality, and tradition behind its production. Here’s why:
- Labour-Intensive Farming
Mujo Matcha is shade-grown for weeks, hand-picked, and processed with great precision to preserve nutrients and flavour. - Only the Best Leaves
Ceremonial grade uses the youngest, most tender leaves from the top of the plant. Fewer leaves means higher quality. - Stone-Ground by Hand
The leaves are slowly stone-milled into a fine powder, preserving taste and nutrients but taking hours to produce small amounts. - Grown in Limited Regions
Top matcha comes from areas like Uji, Japan, where land is limited and centuries-old techniques are followed. - Pure, Vibrant Taste
The flavour is smooth, naturally sweet, and umami-rich and is meant to be enjoyed on its own, not masked by milk or sugar. However it is up to your preference to decide how you’d like to enjoy your matcha.
In short: ceremonial matcha is like fine wine or single-origin coffee—crafted, rare, and worth it.
